Cortinarius umbrinolens Orton subgenus Telamonia Syn. C. Rigidus (Scop.) Fr. Ss Moser Cap 1.5–4cm across, conical then expanded and umbonate, dark brown when moist, especially at the centre, drying yellow brown, surface silky matt, with a pale edge. Stem 30–70 x 2–6mm, brown with a darker base, covered at first with the white cottony veil which forms a distinct but short-lived zones. Flesh umber drying lighter. Smell strong, -rotten cloth. Gills a distinct deep brown with a lighter edge. Spore print rust. Spores broadly elliptic, 7,5–9.5 x 4.5–6µ. Habitat damp places on deciduous heathland usually with birch. Season autumn. Uncommon. Edibility Suspect – avoid as many Cortinarius contain toxins. Found In Europe, probably also in America.
